High School Coasting?

Category: EducationTim @ 7:29 am

Remember senior year? Easy schedule, in late, out early, in general, coasting. Ah, those were the good old days. Check out this post in the Delaware Online News Journal.

The cliche of coasting through the last year of school may sound like fun to teenagers, but it’s a waste of students’ and schools’ time and money — then and later. The Education Commission of the States reports that almost a third of college freshmen need some remedial courses. Graduates going right to work also find themselves unprepared when nearly 60 percent of jobs now require additional training.

When you stop to think about the rising demands for college and the work place, is a year of coasting worth it? On the other hand, it really is your last year to be a kid. After graduation, the “real world” comes calling.
