Breaking – LA Times Protecting Obama, Hiding Rashid Khalidi Video

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 7:58 am

Is the LA Time protecting Obama by hiding video from the Rashid Khalidi farewell dinner? Fox News thinks so:

There is even a petition for you to sign requesting the release from the LA Times. The LA Times had this to say yesterday:

“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”

Jamie Gold, the newspaper’s readers’ representative, said in a statement: “More than six months ago the Los Angeles Times published a detailed account of the events shown on the videotape. The Times is not suppressing anything. Just the opposite — the L.A. Times brought the matter to light.”

The original article said that Obama’s friendships with Palestinian Americans in Chicago and his presence at Palestinian community events had led some to think he was sympathetic to the Palestinian viewpoint on Middle East politics. Obama publicly expresses a pro-Israel viewpoint that pleases many Jewish leaders.

Stay tuned on this one.

Sarah Palin for President in 2012

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 7:36 am

With less than a week to go and, if you would believe the press, an almost-certain victory for Obama, the speculation has begun about the political future for Governor Sarah Palin:

Despite all the criticism, she has many supporters among Republicans who see her as bright, tough and a star in a party with relatively few on the horizon.

“She’s dynamite,” said Morton C. Blackwell, who was President Ronald Reagan’s liaison to the conservative movement. Mr. Blackwell described vying to get close to Ms. Palin at a fund-raiser in Virginia, lamenting that he could get only within four feet.

“I made a major effort to position myself at this reception,” he said, adding that he is eager to sit down with her after the election to discuss the future. Asked if the weeks of unflattering revelations and damaging interviews had tarnished her among conservatives, he replied, “Not a bit.”

Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, a conservative group, called it a “top order of business” to determine Ms. Palin’s future role. “Conservatives have been looking for leadership, and she has proven that she can electrify the grass roots like few people have in the last 20 years,” Mr. Bozell said. “No matter what she decides to do, there will be a small mother lode of financial support behind her.”

We’ve seen a number of headlines lately that give the appearance of a campaign that is not pulling in the same directions. Add to that the belief by some that the Republican Party needs to be shaken a bit and the land could be ripe for a different face for the party:

“I do think we need a more diverse group of messengers,” [Former leader of the Republican Caucus in the California State Legislature Jim] Brulte says. “Too many Republican candidates tend to look at lot like me and guys like John McCain. And I think we need more messengers like Sarah Palin and more messengers like Abe Moldinado, who is a young state senator who spoke at the national convention.”

Of course, much damage has been done to Palin’s image in the current campaign. While some see her as the new face of the party, others are more skeptical:

“She’s an idiot. A politically immature woman, A complete idiot who just doesn’t get it. It is a joke that she is running for vice-president,” [Dan Simon] said.

Simon, a human resources manager who is attending the Human Society for Human Resource Management’s Diversity Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, is from South Dakota, a state known for backing Republicans in presidential elections.

Well, that’s one man’s opinion. I don’t believe she’s an idiot in the sense used above, but I agree that she’s politically immature. However, political immaturity is exactly what I was looking for in a candidate. I was hoping we would get a true non-Washington candidate with some common sense. Someone who thinks about their actions for more than, “will this get me reelected” or “how much money can I get if I decide in favor of this?” I’m so fed-up with politics and the games being played.

Will someone please set-up and take some responsibility for the mess we are in? Will someone please actually lead this country? Leadership is making the hard decisions DESPITE the ramifications. Frankly, I just don’t see that happening with the current batch of candidates. Time to start hoping for better in 2012.

Chargers Miss The Mark – Fire Ted Cottrell Instead of Norv Turner

Category: Pro Sports,SportsTim @ 4:07 pm

The San Diego Chargers almost made the right decision today, but missed and fired Defensive Coordinator Ted Cottrell instead of Head Coach Norv Turner:

The San Diego Chargers fired defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell on Tuesday and elevated inside linebackers coach Ron Rivera to the position.

Cottrell’s dismissal comes two days after the Chargers lost to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, 37-32, in London. Brees threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns. The Chargers have the worst pass defense in the NFL and rank 28th overall.

“Hey, listen, what we’re trying to do is to put our guys in the best position to make plays, and it comes down to our players making plays,” said Turner, deflecting blame away from Cottrell. “It’s never just about one guy.

I like Turner’s claim that it is never about one guy as a way of deflecting attention from himself; the one guy who has a track record of bad coaching. Patience Charger fans, you day will come. I give it about 8 more weeks.

Skinheads Held Over Barack Obama Assassination Plan

Category: 2008 ElectionTim @ 7:13 pm

This campaign is getting way out of control. Just today, we have had Sarah Palin hung in effigy and now; an apparent Obama assassination plan has been foiled by the ATF

Federal authorities in Tennessee announced today that they have arrested two alleged white supremacists in an alleged plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama by driving their vehicle at top speed and firing high-powered rifles at him from their car windows.

The plotters also allegedly discussed shooting 88 African Americans to death and decapitating 14 others in a killing spree across the country — choosing the numbers 88 and 14 because, officials said, “they have special significance within the White Power movement.”

If being a skinhead was not disturbing enough, check out the plans they had made for the killing spree

The suspects met over the Internet about a month ago, said an affidavit filed by Brian Weaks, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

“The individuals began discussing going on a ‘killing spree’ that included killing 88 people and beheading 14 African Americans,” Weaks said in the affidavit.

The men stole guns from family members and also had a sawed-off shotgun. They planned to target a predominately black school, going state to state while robbing individuals and continuing to kill people, Weaks said in the affidavit.

“They further stated that their final act of violence would be to attempt to kill/assassinate presidential candidate Barack Obama,” he said.

These are some seriously disturbed individuals. Check out one of the suspect’s MySpace photo from the AP:

This undated photo obtained from a MySpace webpage shows Daniel Cowart, 20 of Bells, Tenn. holding a weapon. Federal agents have broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree, the ATF said Monday Oct. 27, 2008. In court records unsealed Monday, federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads. The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. (AP Photo)

Please let this be the end of this insanity.

Alaska’s Anchorage Daily News Endorses Barack Obama

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 11:50 am

Today, the Anchorage Daily News came out in support of Senator Barack Obama for President:

Gov. Palin’s nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.

The article goes on to say they like Palin, just not McCain. This can’t be good news for the McCain/Palin ticket and the pro-Obama fources are already having a field-day with this one. Personally, I think it’s questionable for “news” papers to support one candidate over another. How can a news agency be viewed as impartial or balanced in their reporting when they come out on one side of an election or issue? I guess we have the answer, people don’t seem to care.

Video: Barack Obama on the Redistribution of Wealth in this Country

Category: 2008 Election,Politics,VideoTim @ 10:18 am

Everyone who has not voted should listen to this interview with Senator Obama:

OK, this is scary. There are some very interesting quotes in this message. I heard Obama say, “The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, as least as it’s been interpreted, and Warren Court interpreted in the same way that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties, says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf. And that hasn’t shifted.”

“Essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers” and a charter of “negative liberties!” Are you kidding me? I heard him say that the Constitution is flawed and the only way to fix it is through legislation. I’ve joked before about Obama being a Socialist, but this is some strong socialist language. Add to that a Democratic-controlled Congress and we could all be seeing a big change in the fabric of this country.

West Hollywood: Sarah Palin Hung in Effigy

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 9:39 am

Things have gone way too far with the hatred of Sarah Palin in West Hollywood:

Sarah Palin Hanging in West Hollywood

a mannequin has been outfitted to look like Palin — with glasses, a beehive wig and a red business suit — and is hanging from a noose outside a WeHo residence.

The display also depicts a devilish John McCain emerging from flames.

“We see people stopping and taking pictures, and the tour buses are stopping and slowing down … people reach out and take pictures,”display creator Chad Michael Morrisette said.

I don’t care how you feel about a given candidate, hanging someone in effigy like this is akin to a death threat and these people should be arrested.

Wall Street Journal Video: Hatin’ Palin

I saw this video on the Wall Street Journal and it struck a chord with me.

Seems to me that we are so caught-up in the desire for change, that we are not seeing the ones who are truly different.

Could Twitter be a Tool for Terrorists?

Category: blogging,Sci/TechTim @ 8:24 am

Twitter lovers of the world beware, terrorists could be tweeting

The U.S. intelligence community is concerned that terrorists might use micro-blogging tool Twitter to coordinate attacks, according to a purported draft Army intelligence report posted on the Web.

The report–present by the 304th Military Intelligence Battalion and posted to the Federation of American Scientists Web site–examines the possible ways terrorists could use mobile and Web technologies such as the Global Positioning System, digital maps, and Twitter mashups to plan and execute terrorist attacks.

Wait, there’s more:

The report is roughly divided into two halves. The first is based mostly on chatter from Al-Qaeda-affiliated online forums. One Islamic extremist site discusses, for example, the benefits of “using a mobile phone camera to monitor the enemy and its mechanisms.” Another focuses on the benefits of the Nokia 6210 Navigator, and how its GPS utilities could be used for “marksmanship, border crossings, and in concealment of supplies.”

Such software could allow jihadists to pick their way across multiple routes, identifying terrain features as they go. A third extremist forum recommends the installation of voice-modification software to conceal one’s identity when making calls. Excerpts from a fourth site show cell phone wallpapers that wannabe jihadists can use to express their affinity for radicalism:

So, it’s not just Twitter, but basically all technology. Seems to me that this type of fear is just what the terrorists want. Are we supposed to be afraid to live our lives and stay connected with friends? I don’t think so.

What this report should do is be a remider for all of us to be good neighbors and watch for out-of-the-ordinary activities. Twitter and other communication tools are two-way streets. They may help terriorsts communicate, but they also let us in on their converstations. If, we are paying attention.

SNL: Senator Biden and Congressman John Murtha Say Crazy Things in Johnstown, PA

    Category: 2008 Election,Humor,Politics,VideoTim @ 7:43 am

Saturday Night Live keeps on turning out the video in an attempt to keep their ratings high. This one appears to be an attempt and equal time for the Democratic Party’s leading gaff machine, Senator Joe Biden.

I think we can all agree, Joe Biden is no Sarah Palin.
