Obama vs. McCain – The Evil of Two Lessers

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 7:40 am

Watching the presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain last night, one thing became perfectly clear; we deserve better. On one side, you have a young rhetoric-filled politician who’s most redeeming fact is he has too little of a voting record to really nail him down on what he believes. In the other corner, you have an old career politician who claims to be a maverick but really just seems to fight for the sake of fighting and who’s idea of governing appears to be “coalition-building.” In my opinion, that is not leadership.

Barack Obama and John McCain

We are in the midst of some tough issues. Our “buy now and pay for it later” mentality has finally caught-up to us; welcome to later. The world is a mess with radical leaders, a war that no one seems to want, but no one can figure out how to end, and an emerging super power that will dominate the world’s economy on the eastern horizon. Our health care system is spiraling out of control and we don’t seem to have the education system to fix anything. This is a time for leadership, not rhetoric and catch phrases. We need real fundamental change in this country and genuine leadership that is concerned with doing what is right; not in just getting elected so they can pass pork on to their friends.

The last time we were in a mess like this, we got FDR. This time, we have JM or BO. That stinks.

John McCain and Barack Obama to Travel to Iraq Together?

Category: 2008 Election,PoliticsTim @ 1:22 pm

Now, this is what I like to see. Both sides of the presidential campaign process teaming-up to save some money by traveling together. OK, so it’s just an idea, but it’s an interesting idea:

The Associated Press — McCain likes idea of traveling to Iraq with Obama: After criticizing Democratic opponent Sen. Barack Obama for not having been to Iraq since 2006, Republican presidential contender Sen. John McCain on Monday endorsed the idea of a trip together to the war zone. In an interview with the AP, McCain said such a trip “would be fine” and that he would “seize that opportunity to educate Senator Obama along the way.”

I love the bit about Senator McCain “educating” Senator Obama…that’s just good clean politics! Will it happen, I doubt it. But, it is fun to consider.
